Sir Temi Zammit Boys’ Secondary School in Mtarfa has a brand new resources area, designed specifically to assist students with special needs. This new development including a pets’ area, a workshop, and an IT room with specialist software designed for students with special needs has been funded in part by the HSBC Cares For Children Fund. It will provide support for seventeen children who already attend the school and for a further seventeen students with special needs who are expected to join the school next scholastic year.

“The year-long project to set up the resources area has required a lot of dedicated work. The rooms being used needed extensive redecoration and a lot of equipment and educational materials to be brought in. This has been an excellent team effort involving both the school and the local community, with several companies lending a hand. HSBC has always played an active role in the communities surrounding Rabat and through the bank’s Cares For Children Fund, has helped to ensure that students at Sir Temi Zammit who need particular assistance, get the support they need,” said HSBC Mosta area director, Richard Mercieca.

“The number of children requiring special attention at the school has been steadily increasing over the years. Having realised the importance of providing these students with the appropriate support, we have worked very hard to set up this new resources area as quickly as possible. Our assistant head, Ms Anna Spiteri, has been at the forefront of this effort, ensuring organisations like HSBC came on board to help us finish the project. From today, thanks to our new resources area, we will be able to offer special needs students attending Sir Temi Zammit School a better quality education,” said the school’s head teacher, Carmel S. Micallef.

The Resources Area was officially opened by Mr George Borg, Network Coordinator for Special and Inclusive Education and blessed by the Mtarfa Parish Chaplain and school spiritual director, Rev. Joe Buhagiar.
