We have heard a lot of things about the environment over the past week, as several activities were held to coincide with Environment Day.

I must commend the Rural Affairs and Environment Ministry for its organisation. I must say that activities promoting a better environment are not restricted solely to Environment Week, but they are held all throughout the year.

Of course, the ministry needs the collaboration of the people in this regard, but unfortunately this is not always forthcoming. Many people still think that what is public is not theirs and therefore they do not consider it as their “home”.

The advent of green wardens should have helped to curb abuses but little has been heard since they were introduced early this year. It would be interesting to know what they have done so far.
