Painting Exhibition in Qormi

Malta Independent Thursday, 8 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

A painting exhibition by the Qormi born artist Daniel Scerri will be opened by Justice and Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg tomorrow at 7.30pm at Ir-Razzett l-Antik Triq il-Wied, Qormi. This event, organised by the Qormi local council, coincides with the celebrations organised by the local council, for Qormi Day, with the aim of enhancing the historical, artistic and cultural milieu of this town that has contributed prodigiously to social development on the Island.

This representative and characteristic exhibition by Daniel Scerri achieves a relatively high artistic standard. It promotes, celebrates and exposes his artistic creativity.

Daniel’s art is conspicuous for the crudeness in his works, where he likes to use different materials, such as aged and discarded wood. He exploits the veins, the fissures, the knags which he effectively incorporates in his paintings which are inspired by the same imperfections.

The so called cloths on which he evolves the object of his inspiration, are perfectly utilised, so much so that a soft face is set out on the fissure of a piece of wood.

The exhibition will remain open until 23 June.
