The HSBC Cares For Malta’s Heritage Fund, has presented a further Lm10,000 to Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti to assist in the final phase of Palazzo Falson in Mdina. These funds are in addition to the Lm10,000 donation already announced earlier this year.
“Work at the Palazzo Falson is now at an advanced stage and the results look breathtaking. Patrimonju are doing a fantastic job and are now in the process of dressing the house,” said HSBC’s chief executive Shaun Wallis.
Maurice de Giorgio, executive chairman of Patrimonju, warmly thanked Mr Wallis for this extra-curriculum contribution, which gesture, said Mr de Giorgio, comes at a most opportune moment and, at the same time, raises HSBC Bank to Associate status.
Palazzo Falson is Mdina is the former home of Olof Frederick Gollcher OBE (1889-1962), who purchased the building in 1927. A lifelong interest in history and art led him to create an impressive collection of paintings, silver, furniture, jewellery, oriental rugs, armoury and numerous other collections. In 2001, Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti and The Captain O.F. Gollcher Art and Archaeological Foundation, reached an agreement whereby Patrimonju was entrusted with restoring and managing the site as well as taking responsibility for re-opening the Palazzo as a historic house-museum.
