Four Birkirkara Players and coach win top football awards

Four Birkirkara players and their coach Stephen Azzopardi yesterday won six of the top awards between them in the Melita Digital Malta Football Awards ceremony held at the Corinthia Palace Hotel in Attard.

Nigerian defender Precious Monye scooped two awards – that of Best Defender and Best Foreign Player – while Michael Galea, George Mallia and Etienne Barbara won the Best Striker, Best Midfielder and Best Maltese Player awards. Stephen Azzopardi won the award for the Best Coach.

Birkirkara won this year’s Bank of Valletta Premier League.

The other awards went as follows:

Most promising youngster: Dyson Falzon (Mosta).

Best Goalkeeper: Murphy Akanji (Sliema W.).

Best Onvol Gozitan player: Elton Vella (Kercem A.)

Best Futsal Player: John Campbell (Hibernians).

Best First Division player: Gilbert Martin (Marsa).

Best Female Player: Rebecca D’Agostino (Melita).

Best Goal of the Season: Udo Nwoko (Mosta).

Best Veteran Player over 36: Stefan Sultana (Hamrun S.).

Career awards were also presented to Carm Borg, former Malta national coach and president of the Malta Olympic Committee and the Amateur Swimming Association as well as to Mr Josie Brincat, Police Assistant Commissioner, for his services at Ta’ Qali during the past years.
