Road Repair work

Malta Independent Friday, 9 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

I understand that it is the Malta Transport Authority which is responsible for the road repair work being carried out in many places. I wonder, is it also the MTA which is responsible for deciding which sections of road to repair?

If that is so, I can only conclude that the MTA is the most insensitive “authority” I know. It just does not bother with people’s complaints, and forges ahead with its plans and ideas, regardless of people’s feelings and thinking.

The repair work being carried out is of a good standard. What beggars belief is the decision about which sections of road should be repaired, and which left unattended. I have read in the media, for instance, complaints about the parts of the road to Rabat from Attard, which were left undone.

They were justified complaints. Parts of the Rabat road, touching the newly repaired sections, are in an execrable condition. Why were these parts ignored? It is tortuous to go up to Saqqajja and those ignoring motorists’ complaints should be ashamed. Repair work was also carried out some time ago on the Marsascala bypass. And it is the same situation. The repaired part leads to another section of the bypass that is a nightmare to drive on. How could the repair work have stopped where it did, ignoring a section that is in just as bad a condition?

J. Galea,

Rabat.
