Heritage Malta’s next heritage trail will focus on the island of Gozo and its folklore. The trail, scheduled for the evening of Wednesday 28 June and named the “Gran Castello Experience”, will zoom in on The Citadel and its history and will also inaugurate an exhibition of recently-acquired Gozitan ethnographic artefacts.
The trail will take participants around The Citadel’s fortifications. An innovative feature in this particular trail will be three actors who will enact the legend of the finding of a golden calf on the hills of Ta’ Gelmus, the story of Bernando D’Opuo and the 1551 siege and the story of the imprisonment of La Vallette in Gozo.
This trail is the sixth in Heritage Malta’s series of thematic heritage trails introduced earlier this year.
Prior to the trail, Heritage Malta will inaugurate an exhibition of recently-acquired traditional objects such as kitchen utensils and agricultural tools.
All artefacts were obtained from Gozo and are therefore clear evidence of the island’s rural history. The exhibition will be displayed at the Heritage Malta Gozo Area Office throughout the months of July and August. Admission is free of charge.
Following the trail, participants can enjoy two sessions of poetry narration on Gozo with a tasty barbecue in between.
A maximum of 100 people will be able to take part in this event. Ticket bookings can be done at the Heritage Malta Head Office on 2295-4312 or at the Gozo Area Office on 2156-4188.
The event starts at 7.15pm from Gozo’s office at St Martin’s Quarter, The Citadel and ends at around 10.30pm. Tickets cost Lm6 for adults and Lm4 for children under 12 years old, including the BBQ and a drink.
