Would-be Smokers

Malta Independent Thursday, 15 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

In my bad young days I sought safety by smoking filter-tipped cigarettes.

Filters diminish the oxygen in smoke. This results in the rise of the poisonous carbon monoxide in the blood (carboxylhaemoglobin).

This causes damage to the cardiovascular system, with greater risks of strokes, heart failure, and deaths.

True or false?

I don’t know. I am older and wiser.

Smoking is anathema to me now!
