The Malta Equestrian Federation is committed to develop this sport in Malta with the scope and objective of participating at major regional, European and international events and competitions. For the past few years equestrian sports have been organised on a regular basis in Malta. Although low key, the enthusiasm, dedication and will to improve shown by our riders is encouraging.

The Maltese Federation, in collaboration with its training centre in Belgium, has been active on the international scene and has identified riders of Maltese origin who in line with the rules of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) may qualify to ride for Malta at an international level.

These riders are already of the required standard and will shortly be introduced to the local scene. In the meantime, the Malta Equestrian Federation has invited riders to ride for the Maltese colours with horses holding a Maltese passport at a number of international events enabling Malta to gain the necessary international exposure. These riders have been very successful and have honoured the Maltese colours wherever they competed. Some of the riders will visit Malta during the next season’s calendar, starting at the end of September.

Malta’s first major success came in the International Unex Masters Towerlands CSI Grand Prix in England during December 2005 where Brazilian-born Maltese rider Ivan Camargo produced two fantastic rounds to scoop first prize in the Grand Prix, while this year, he obtained positive top ten results at the Toscana Arezzo Gold Tour. Furthermore, earlier this month, promising talent Thomas Genin won the Belgian Moerzeke CSN Grand Prix and during the last weekend he led a number of training clinics organised by the Malta Equestrian Federation in co-operation with two of the local equestrian centres.
