While holidaying in Malta in May, I read in your interesting newspaper that children were launching your response to the EU campaign “You Control Climate Change” (TMID, 6 June).
Could children help a project I’ve been waging for many years against the waste of water, fuel, time and money by the unnecessary laundering of hotel guests’ towels?
Hotel management often profess to follow an environmentally sensitive policy, displaying a notice on bathroom walls, but seldom is it adhered to.
I could write a book on my efforts in various countries and languages to get chambermaids to await my towel “drop”. I’ve been told it is adopted on Rhine cruises, so there is hope.
I would happily finance prizes in a competition to design an illustrated note that could be handed personally to each guest, so drawing attention to a policy that is regularly ignored.
As a retired primary teacher, I would love to be involved if the idea is taken up.
