Couple Guilty of theft

Malta Independent Saturday, 17 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

A couple was yesterday found guilty of theft from a jewellers’ shop.

Vicky Ebejer, 26, was found guilty of stealing a gold necklace from Classic Jewellers on 13 October 2002. Stephen Galli, 37, was found guilty of handling stolen property.

In passing judgment, Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani said that the theft stemmed from couple’s complete dependence on drugs.

The court noted that Ebejer was a first time offender and handed down a one-year prison sentence suspended for two years, but on condition that she enrolled into a drug rehabilitation programme.

Galli, on the other hand, had had various brushes with the law but did seem like he wanted to kick the habit.

The court therefore sentenced him to one year’s imprisonment and recommended that the Corradino Correctional Facility Director allowed him to follow a drug rehab programme.
