I refer to your article Reinstatement works at Jumbo Lido site in Sliema, (TMID, 16 June), which states that work is expected to be completed shortly once Mepa gives the go-ahead.
Just to clarify matters, the Jumbo Lido was demolished after Mepa issued a permit under the Dangerous Structures Ordinance on 28 October 2005.
The application mentioned in the article, PA 6693/05 had been submitted two days before but was withdrawn by the applicant following the issue of the letter to remove the Jumbo Lido as this was considered as dangerous.
On removing this derelict building, other sources of danger were uncovered, among which were a ramp which was unguarded and leading directly to the sea, a large excavated hole and some rusty metal protruding from the demolished structure. On 18 May 2006, another permit to remove these dangers was issued. Mepa has currently no pending applications for this site.
