In your leader “The next election,” (TMID 13 June), you gave possible scenarios as to when the next national poll will be held.
You mentioned three possible periods – late 2007, early 2008 and mid-2008, giving different reasons as to why the Prime Minister would pick that particular time.
I think that you covered most of the aspects that are linked to the coming election – except one. This is the possibility that the Prime Minister might decide to leave the election until the last possible date, that is September 2008, so that the government would be able to regain as much support as possible following some difficult years.
The Nationalist government has had a hard time since European Union membership, and I believe that it needs all the time it can get to be able to reverse the situation.
Otherwise, I believe that the Malta Labour Party will come out on top this time round.
