Malta Independent Thursday, 22 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Government’s investment in post secondary education was having the desired results, Education Minister Louis Galea said yesterday.

During a visit to Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary school in Naxxar, Dr Galea said the number of 17-year-olds who had furthered their studies had increased from 43 per cent in 1999 to 66 per cent in 2004.

He said the government wanted to increase the number of post-secondary educational facilities.

A new four-storey block has been built in Naxxar covering an area of 3,500 square metres. The block will house 22 classrooms, specialised rooms and a library on one floor.

The construction work has been completed and the new block will be completely ready by September. Work on the school’s sports facilities is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

The project will costs Lm600,000, the minister said.
