Malta Independent Monday, 3 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

A Tunisian man appeared in court yesterday to answer charges of threatening four police officers at a police station and of lodging false reports against them.

Mabrouk Mourad, a 27-year-old Tunisian who resides in Gzira, pleaded not guilty to making false reports against four police officers at Hamrun police station on 1 July.

He was also accused of fabricating evidence, threatening and insulting the officers involved, giving a false statement, using obscene language in public and breaching the peace. The court, presided over by magistrate Anthony Vella, refused the accused’s application for bail and ordered that he be remanded in custody at the Corradino Correctional Facility.
