Labour’s spokesman for International Affairs has called on the international community to act responsibly, as the crisis in the Middle East continues to unfold.
He said that while one understands the anger caused by the kidnapping of an Israeli soldier by Palestinian militants, the Israeli government’s military offensive is rather disproportionate, as it is penalising innocent civilians.
Mr Brincat praised Hamas’ initiative to recognise the existence of the State of Israel, at least in principle. He said that the fact that Israel had not taken any notice of this proposal shows that the country is not serious about a peace plan.
He also called on the peace plan proposed by the Palestinians to be adopted internationally, so that aid can again start flowing to these oppressed people.
