Port Charges issue: GRTU warns government again

Malta Independent Tuesday, 4 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

The Chamber for Small and Medium Enterprises (GRTU) said that unless the government does not budge on the situation regarding port charges and clarifies what the amounts are to be paid by its members, then there will be no movement of containers at the Freeport today.

The GRTU said that the customs clearance agents, which are its members, refused to pay the charges imposed by the ports as these included agent charges, contrary to what the Malta Maritime Authority said.

The chamber called on the government to publish the charges in question at both ports and explain where the discounts are.

It also asked why the Freeport refuses to open an office in Marsa when it would be benefiting from large amounts of money.
