The Floriana local council did not agree in full with the method proposed in the white paper on traffic management in Floriana and Valletta, the council said in a statement yesterday.

Floriana has in fact been left out of the scheme that was launched earlier this week and will be introduced in October.

In its statement, the local council said that it was conscious of the parking problems that existed in the locality.

In fact, over the past months the council had drawn up proposals so that residents and their relatives, the commercial community and people who need to see to their social needs will have the possibility to park for a given time.

Through this plan, drawn up after public consultation, the council wanted to create a balance to meet the needs of the community. At the same time, the plan will limit parking in zones that should be otherwise free of cars.

The council said that the park-and-ride scheme should make it possible for the vehicles used for transportation to make a stop in Floriana to accommodate people who work there.

The council will be forwarding these suggestions to the authorities concerned.
