Junior Lyceum Results on SMS

Malta Independent Sunday, 9 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Students sitting for the Junior Lyceum Entrance Examination are given the option to receive their results by SMS on a number of their choice. It is a good initiative unless you happen to be one of those unfortunate enough to never receive yours.

It was a very long day, as we waited in vain for our SMS to come through. I contacted my network’s customer care more than once to enquire why I had not received the result and was given a long list of excuses.

Until, in the early evening, I was told that the list of results was incomplete and that a number of families would not receive them!

How could anyone be so heartless as to leave families in such a situation?

I would like to ask those involved in the distribution of the results to put themselves in the families’ shoes, not knowing if their children had passed. I ask them to try to imagine themselves being one of the few students (two in the case of our class) sitting in the classroom hearing their classmates discussing the results, feeling dumbfounded and confused, not only on Wednesday when the results started to arrive, but on Thursday as well.

Having done their best in their studies, it is inhumane to cause students such pain. I hope that such a mistake will not be repeated, as I would hate to know that families experienced such anxiety like us because of someone’s lack of responsibility.

It is unacceptable!
