The Marsaxlokk Local council

Malta Independent Sunday, 9 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

I have been living in Marsaxlokk for the last two years and I can say that I have not yet seen any progress made by the local council.

A few months ago the traffic signs in Triq il-Melqart were changed and there are also some sleeping policemen now. I cannot see the reason for these changes. Perhaps this was done because the residents of this road complained about car exhaust? Or perhaps there are residents in this road who are better than others living in the road parallel to it that faces the valley, which has so much bumps that it feels like driving on the craters of planet Mars.

Some months ago, works started in Tas-Silg Road. The pavement was built but had some missing parts because the new electricity poles were not ready. Now the new poles are in place but the old ones are still there. The road was also dug up for the necessary cables and was not filled properly. So to drive through this road it would be better if you own a tank as a normal car would sustain a lot of damage.

I would like to ask what the local council is waiting for to finish this work. Is it waiting for the next local council elections? Or is it waiting for the work at the seafront in Marsaxlokk to start that will end up with all the roads closed?
