Isolated Showers over the next two days

Malta Independent Tuesday, 11 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The usually clear July skies were clouded over this weekend due to a batch of cold air from North Italy, a spokesperson for the Meteorological Office said yesterday.

The unstable air mass covering the central Mediterranean was formed when hot air rises and meets cold air high up in the atmosphere.

The Met Office said the weather today will be partly cloudy with the possibility of isolated showers in places and thunder at times and a light north-easterly wind.

The highest temperature these past two days was 29 degrees Celsius and the lowest was 22 degrees Celsius.

“These are the average temperatures for this time of the year,” he said.

The weather should improve tomorrow, even though there still is the possibility of isolated showers.

“The temperature should go up to 30 degrees Celsius on Thursday with clear skies for the rest of the week,” he said.

The official website was unavailable for a few hours yesterday and the latest weather information was not updated. Due to incorrect information and rumours, several people called the Meteorological Office concerned that there could be a huge storm on the way.

The spokesperson said there was no reason for concern and that there will not be any major storm but only isolated showers.
