Malta Independent Saturday, 15 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

A total of 59 cyclists will be taking part in this year’s Travelex Lifecycle Challenge, which will be collecting funds for the Renal Unit.

Cyclists and organisers on Thursday loaded a container with bikes, equipment and foodstuffs outside the gym at St Aloysius College, Birkirkara.

Thirteen members of the backup team will leave Malta on 27 July, when the container is expected to arrive in Norway. The entire cycling team then leaves on 30 July.

A spin-dryer, which was donated by Phoenix Group was among the items loaded into the container and will definitely prove useful to cyclists, who will be able to prepare a clean set of clothes for the following day’s ride.

Foodstuffs for the event were donated by Vivian Corp. Ltd, Crown Cold Stores, Alf. Mizzi and Sons, Nestle and Foster Clarks.

Further information may be obtained from the Lifecycle website www.lifecyclechallenge.com where online donations may be made.

Donations will also be received through the Lifecycle account at BOV or HSBC, or by SMS numbers: Lm1 – 50617356, Lm3 – 50618921 and Lm5 – 50619208. They may also be sent to the Lifecycle Organisation c/o Renal Unit, St Luke’s Hospital, Guardamangia.

The money collected during this year’s challenge will be spent on four more kidney dialysis machines and patient couches for the Renal Unit.
