I refer to the article by Daphne Caruana Galizia (TMID, 13 July) entitled “The crazy people of Malta” and accompanied by a photo of me waving an Italian flag.

Ms Caruana Galizia reads a bit too much into someone waving the flag of his or her favourite football team. Before spinning grand theories about national identity she should note that people like me are proud of the Maltese flag and about being Maltese. As a matter of fact, to my children and to other Maltese I use my first language which I speak fluently and without mimicking a foreign accent.

Apart from that I think your paper should exercise greater care in gratuitious use of words like “crazy”.
