A man was yesterday jailed for one and a half years after presiding magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera ruled that he had been given enough chances to get his life back on the right track.
Matthew Frendo, 30, from Zebbug, was jailed after magistrate Scerri Herrera noted that he had not learnt from his mistakes. He pleaded guilty to stealing stereos from four cars in August 2005.
Antoine Cassar, 35, also from Zebbug, was found guilty of receiving the stolen goods and was conditionally discharged for two years.
Handing down her judgement, magistrate Scerri Herrera said Cassar had a clean criminal record. She cleared him of the charged related to theft and damaging the cars but found him guilty of receiving the stolen car stereos.
She said Frendo had not learnt from his mistakes and said that a jail term would teach him that he has to shoulder responsibility for his mistakes. Frendo was also fined Lm100 for breaching a probation order.
Police inspector Jeffrey Azzopardi prosecuted.
