Daihatsu’s Terios Grows up

Malta Independent Wednesday, 19 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Although the previous-generation model of the Daihatsu Terios was a robust little workhorse with a small but enthusiastic customer base, its all-new replacement is bigger and more refined. Daihatsu is convinced that with the latest Terios, sales will increase dramatically.

This second-generation model is shifting its past image to a styling that simply looks good in terms of style. Its chunky lines, flared wheel arches and choice of vibrant paint colours ensure that it is far more pleasing to the eye than its predecessor. The Terios follows on from last year’s new Sirion in offering a strong European flavour to its styling, packaging and dynamics.

In the urban jungle, its compact size makes negotiating streets and traffic easy while in the countryside the Terios’ full-time 4WD system can cope with practically anything thrown at it. A tight turning circle and decent body control make it reasonably nimble and easy to park, and the ride is firm.

Its advanced permanent four-wheel drive system provides confidence in any condition, whether it is slippery roads, steep hills or just a heavy downpour. Full-time four-wheel drive and a commanding view give the Terios an advantage over ordinary cars.

The Terios’ 103bhp, 1.5-litre petrol engine provides adequate pace and economy at 35mpg. A five-speed manual gearbox is standard and one may also opt for a four-speed automatic gearbox.

Standard features include air-condition, power steering, ABS with EBD, VSC, TRC and HAC, four airbags – driver and passenger, driver’s seat height adjuster, remote central locking, electric door mirrors, electric front and rear windows – colour keyed, split folding rear seats, height adjustable driver seat, roof rails, rear wash/wipe, clock and CD tuner with four speakers. The starting price is Lm9,995.
