A Labour Party delegation lead by Opposition Leader Alfred Sant yesterday met a delegation from the Private Schools Association.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the Labour draft plan on education, Pjan ta' Politika ghall-qasam edukattiv f'Malta u Ghawdex.
Dr Sant said the Labour Party was concerned that Malta did not fulfil the criteria set by the Lisbon Agenda.
Initiatives should be set up so Malta does not place last in the fields of science, information technology and research and development, he added.
The Private Schools Association representatives said that the Labour draft plan should also include the cultural, moral and religious dimension. Dr Sant replied that the Labour Party always respected the religious and social aspect, while promoting social values.
The Labour Party proposed the introduction of team teaching. Teachers will only teach their area of specialisation and each primary school will employ teachers specialised in science, information and communication technology, physical education and arts, according to the MLP's plan.
