Malta Independent Thursday, 20 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Fifty-three lady and gentlemen enthusiasts, took to the field in baking hot weather to play a Stableford match where player’s scores are based on their personal handicap.

The format creates a level playing field as much as possible by awarding the ‘average’ player extra strokes, thus ensuring that he/she has as much chance of winning as a very good player.

Notwithstanding the extra shots, Nathan Farrugia, emerged as the eventual winner of the tournament with a handicap of 16 and with a very creditable score of 39 points.

David Cauchi, Director of Sparkasse Bank Malta plc awarded the prize to Farrugia which was an all expenses paid holiday to Tunisia for two people. David Cauchi who was accompanied by Michael Stoff, who has recently been seconded to the bank in Malta, expressed the Bank’s intention to keep the sponsorship going in the coming years. Paul Mifsud was also in attendance.
