Malta won the first medals yesterday in the second day of the FISEC Games being held in Hungary.

Thirteen year old Talisa Pace won the first medal for Malta when she won the bronze medal in the 200m freestyle. Pace was the youngest competitor in this category.

Daniel Galea, also 13 managed to set an age record in the 50m breaststroke when he clocked 36.36. Another bronze medal in the swimming events was obtained by the 4x100m freestyle relay girls team.

Francesca Paolella won the silver medal by clocking 35.64 in the final of the 50m breaststroke.

In the Table-Tennis Malta opened with a win but suffered three consecutive defeats later during the day. In the first match the Malta team made up of Daniel Vella and Stephan Grech obtained a victory against Holland 3-2. However Malta suffered three consecutive defeats withe same scoreline 0-3, against France, Portugal, and Spain.

The girls’ Basketball team suffered the first defeat after the winning start on day one. Yesterday the Maltese girls were soundly beaten by France 83-39. Christine Grima was Malta’s best scorer with 16 points. Today Malta faces the United States

In the Tennis event Clayton Zammit beat Dutch player Van Basten 6-1, 6-2.

In the doubles event Jean Pierre Schembri and Denzil Agius obtained a victory against Dutch opposition.

In the Futsal after the drubbing suffered against Portugal, Malta suffered another defeat against Spain 1-5. Neville Mifsud scored Malta’s goal. Today Malta faces host country Hungary.

Good news came from the athletics field with Malta winning two medals.

Francesca Xuereb won the silver medal in the 300m hurdles with 47.49.

Alessandra Pace won the bronze in the long jump competition with a 5.13m jump.
