The Malta Labour Party (MLP) paid tribute to poet, writer and playwright Guze` Chetcuti following his funeral held in the parish of Stella Maris in Sliema.

Mr Chetcuti who died at the age of 91 and his works contributed enormously towards the development of the Maltese language.

He not only wrote in Maltese, but he loved the language. The MLP said it hoped that more people follow Mr Chetcuti’s example.

His efforts, akin to those of other literary masters of the Maltese language were carried out during difficult times for the language and this should help us to appreciate their work, said the MLP.

The party offered its condolences to his wife, children and family.
