The Malta Netball Association is the governing body of netball in Malta having the objectives of promoting and encouraging the development of the game in the country. It has the sole right to organise the game of Netball at national and international level (in Malta) and also has the right of representation and responsibility both at national and international events and competitions.

The game of netball in Malta was introduced by the families of members of the British Forces serving in Malta and apart from the national competitions organised by the association it is one of the sports still practised in local schools.

The total number of affiliated teams for the season 2005/2006 totalled 18 with six teams in the first division (All Ages Eurochange, Fuego Champs, Kerygma, M’Scala, Mosta Auto Dealer NRG and Ta’ Xbiex ASC), five teams in the second division (Kerygma Strikers, Mellieha, New Ages, NRG B and United) and the under 21’s consisting of seven teams (All Ages Too, BBQ World NRG, Kerygma Banjos, Kerygma Kaizers, Mellieha Minis, M’Scala Angels and New Ages Followers. The number of registered participants to date amounts to 180 whilst the number of practising umpires totals 12.

The association’s competitions usually start in October with the national league which comprises also the U/21 League. The Knockout competition commences immediately at the end of the League and the winners of the Seniors National League and the Knockout competition contend the Super Cup.

Throughout the year, the association hosts a considerable number of foreign teams who play against both our affiliated teams as well as school teams. Considering the fact that it is very difficult for teams at club level to participate in foreign tournaments, this visiting practice gives local netball players the opportunity to play against different and assorted opponents thus gaining wider experience.

Although not under the MNA jurisdiction, netball is also played in a good number of local primary and secondary schools. These teams participate in an apposite league for school children which is organised throughout the school period.
