It is reported that the reconstruction work on the St Julian’s Manwel Dimech bridge – the notoriously vexatious, money spinning, snail-pace 45kph stretch – will take several months to complete.

Way back in the 1960s, on a motoring holiday, while driving along the coast through Scilla, I noticed that the tallest bridge of the Calabrian autostrada was still under construction, with a span of about 50-100 metres still to be built. On my way down to Malta about two weeks later, looking up from the same coast road, the missing span was in place.
