The Dance Council is presenting Ballet d’Europe in two varied performances under the artistic direction of Jean Charles Gil, during the Malta Arts Festival – Summer 2006.

On Friday 4 August, Ballet d’Europe will perform Mireille and on Saturday 5 August, Mozart’s Requiem, both at the Royal Opera House ruins, in Valletta at 9pm.

In addition, Jean Charles Gil will present a choreographic piece for top Maltese dancers selected from local dance schools entitled MA, to mark the first collaboration between Marseille, the home of Ballet d’Europe, and Malta.

Charles Gounod’s opera Mireille, re-arranged for a ballet by composer Raoul Lay, relates the tragic love story between rich young Mireille and her poor weaver lover, Vincent. Mozart’s Requiem is a contemporary uplifting interpretation of the beginning of time, life and the mystery of creation and alternately man’s timelessness.

Ballet d’ Europe is an EU-funded professional company of 18 dancers from around the world, and is also a specialised laboratory where dance and dancers are trained and developed.

Tickets at Lm10 and Lm12 are available from the Malta Arts Festival Information Stand, Freedom Square, Valletta.
