The various environmental NGOs rally together to protest against any initiative that destroys any more green areas of our dwindling countryside. Hunters and trappers also have the countryside at heart.

Their sport depends on ample green space.

The exclusion of the public from areas used by hunters need not be a bone of contention. A compromise might be reached with the public having access to public land frequented by hunters and trappers during weekends.

Hunters and trappers target a small percentage of bird species and their activity actually benefits other species of bird, mammal and plant. An example which proves this point is the beautiful English countryside which owes a lot to sporting interests.

It is a pity that environment NGOs tacitly refuse the support of the hunting fraternity in their protests.

Hunters and trappers and environmentalists need not be foes but the common foe is indeed the greedy developer.

After all, in the trapping and hunting close seasons, nature abounds undisturbed in the fields held in tenure for the sport but nothing grows or lives on concrete.
