The government is doing its utmost to improve Malta’s tourist product, at the same time that tour operators are selling Malta as an up-

market destination, Tourism and Culture Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said last night.

Speaking at the opening of the embellished Howard Gardens by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, Dr Zammit Dimech said that every year the government was investing in embellishing promenades, building new beaches, improving the infrastructure, constructing new roads and embellishing roundabouts and centre strips.

He said the government had invested a considerable amount of money to safeguard Malta’s cultural heritage through projects in Mdina, Rabat, Buskett and Dingli and pointed out that Lm180,000 had been invested in the Domus Romana in Rabat and Lm500,000 in Mdina alone.

Thanks to funding from the EU, said Dr Zammit Dimech, the government, had invested over Lm300,000 in Howard Gardens.

He said this latest project had created a heri-tage park that included the surrounding area from the Domus Romana along Howard Gardens to Mdina.
