It is amazing that any writer could choose such a lack of basic values as to criticise Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party for insisting on the right to a fair trial for all persons. It is amazing that we have sunk so low that we feel the need to make such basic statements.

The criticism of Ms Joanne Micallef (“The true victims”, TMID, 2 August) fails to take account the track record of Alternattiva Demokratika of many years insisting on democratic values in every instance and regardless of any possible distinction.

It would be an abandonment of all democratic values should anybody act on her indecent proposal to make exceptions to the rule. It would start us on a slippery slope and expose every one of us to very serious danger.
