Why Not take up flamenco this summer?

Malta Independent Saturday, 5 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Francesca Grima (better known as Cikka) is offering 10-day flamenco workshop at Alegria Academia Flamenca. The studio is air-conditioned and there will be an end-of-course demonstration for parents and friends on the last day, 1 September.

It is a 10-day course from 21 August until 1 September, with NO CLASS on the 24 and 27 August, so that you can have a rest in between!

In the advanced level class she will be teaching Bulerias and this will consist of 4 to 5 letras as well as Bulerias footwork, marking and llamadas. “It will be a fiesta Bulerias and we will try and perform it as if it were a fiesta Bulerias with each person coming up with his own pataita at the end!” Cikka says.

In the intermediate level class we will be doing a Caracoles with the fan. It will consist of one letra, escobilla (footwork) and Bulerias at the end. We will try and do as much fan work as possible but also concentrate on footwork and clean lines.

The high beginners level class will consist of a Tangos de Malaga which is simple yet very flamenco style and we will do one letra, escobilla (footwork) and tangos at the end.

There is a 10% discount for anyone wishing to do more than one level.
