The President Was on time

Malta Independent Sunday, 6 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

From Mr G. Agius

I refer to Franco Farrugia’s letter “The President was on time” (TMIS, 23 July). In his letter Mr Farrugia mentioned the traffic confusion at Gzira Road because a number of cars were forced to make way for the President’s car.

Such things happen only in Malta. In other countries, the route to be taken by the Head of State is closed to traffic beforehand, therefore such incidents do not occur. If Mr Farrugia happens to be abroad when the Head of State of that country is being driven to an appointment, he would not hear the horrendous appellatives of so many drivers having to make way for the President’s car, he would hear the crowd on both sides of the road cheering their Head of State as s/he drives past.

Please give way to the President... with a smile!

Godwin Agius
