The Streets come to life

Malta Independent Monday, 7 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Street musicians, live bands, spontaneous painting sessions by Maltese artists, children’s shows, classic car displays, a village band and an open-air table-tennis tournament are just some of the activities organised in Valletta as part of the BOV Streets Alive! programme.

Valletta walkabouts are being organised and museums will stay open late, while shopping addicts can take advantage of late night shopping, with participating shops offering discounts and staying open until 10.30pm.

BOV Streets Alive! was designed to continue to give Valletta its due and proper place on the local scene as an ideal location for evening leisure. It aims to bring more people into Valletta at a time when activity in the city normally starts to diminish.

This initiative aims to do this by creating synergies between the arts, leisure and business activities in the city.

Visiting hours to a number of museums have been extended while shops, cafe-terias, bars and other catering establishments are also operating past their normal opening hours, following the successful response to this initiative.

BOV Streets Alive! is organised by the Valletta Alive Foundation in association with Bank of Valletta on four consecutive Friday evenings, with the first one being held two weeks ago and the second one last Friday.

The BOV Streets Alive! programme of on-street activities will take place between 6.30pm and 9pm, just before and leading up to the main events of the Malta Arts Festival.
