Keep Money rolling in

Malta Independent Thursday, 10 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

Kilimanjaro Challenge 3 is the third in a series of similar challenges. Previous editions of the Kilimanjaro Challenge have helped build a school and accompanying convent in the Bulbula province of Ethiopia.

The school and convent are being set up by Dun Gorg Grima’s Moviment Missjunarju Gesu fil-Proxxmu, a social development organisation that runs more than 200 projects in Brazil, Kenya and Ethiopia. KC3’s purpose is to help furnish the school and get it up and running. It also aims to help Amy Zahra get back to ordinary life.

Amy was a third-year engineering student when she lost all her fingers and thumbs and both lower legs through bacterial meningitis. The 21 year-old’s face and name are now familiar sights in the media, but her rehabilitation still has some way to go.

KC3 is running a programme of events to raise funds towards Amy’s rehabilitation and to provide an education to children in Ethiopia. You can help by dropping in at one or several of these events or by making a donation.

Tomorrow, Dimples Bar in Mosta is holding an open-air suckling pig barbecue at 8.30pm with live entertainment by Ivan Filletti and Scream Daisy. To reserve a place contact Natal Falzon on mobile number 99452726. Tickets cost Lm5 and include a glass of wine and the chance to win spot prizes.

On Sunday, a beach volley tournament will be held at Golden Bay. Registration is by 10.30am, at Lm5 for each two-person team. For details, contact Adele Muscat 9940 3166 or Donatelle Callus on 9940 7682.

Other events this month include quiz nights every Tuesday at Vintage Bar in Bugibba and a reggae fest featuring a live jamming session. For more information on KC3’s aims and events, visit www.kilimanjarochallenge3.com
