Bay Street is once again launching the Star to B, a young talent contest which provides young up-and-coming artistes with the unique opportunity of performing in public.
This popular contest is now in its fourth year and it involves children between the age of six and 18, who perform in live acts of not longer than three-and-a-half minutes of singing and dancing.
Participants wishing to take part in more than one category have to fill in separate applications for each performance. Application forms may be obtained from the offices of the Bay Street Tourist Complex, Pedigree Toy Shop, Jokers and Exotique.
The applications for the Star to B contest will be received until 20 August. A one-time registration and participation fee of Lm20 is to be sent with each application form. A percentage of the proceeds will be in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Fund.
The Star to B 2006 contest is subject to short-listing and auditions, and this year is divided into 3 categories. Category A is open to children between the ages of 6 and 11; Category B is open to children from 12 to 15 years of age; Category C is open to teenagers between the ages of 16 and 18. Three winners will be declared in each category and the first placing winners will compete automatically for the overall title.
Further information may be obtained by phone on 21 380600.
The overall winner of the contest will win a cruise for two courtesy of SMS Travel, a one-year sponsorship at Masquerade, an MP3 player from MATRIX and a weekend break at the Bay Street Hotel.
Martin Sapiano, Bay Street’s Marketing and Events Manager, said that this was the fourth consecutive year that the Bay Street Complex was organizing this event. “With every year the Star to B contest continues to grow and we are inundated by applications. There is a lot excitement among the many young participants who really appreciate the exposure which this contest affords them. This year we are very happy to have with us a group of high profile individuals from the music scene, including a UK based music producer and manager, who will be adjudicating the contest.”
The Star to B 2006 contest will be held at the Bay Street Complex on Saturday, 26 August.
