Waterpolo: Final Two rounds will be decisive

Malta Independent Friday, 18 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The final two rounds of matches in the Wilkinson Sword league starting from this evening at the Tal-Qroqq national pool, will obviously be decisive.

At present, Neptunes Vodafone lead the standings two points ahead of Sliema Burger King and three ahead of 2X Sirens. But there is still a possibility that the three teams could finish with the same number of points at the end of the campaign.

Today, 2X Sirens will be facing Neptunes with the champions knowing that only a victory over the Balluta Bay side will keep their hopes alive. In that case, and if Sliema, as expected, win tomorrow against San Giljan Zara, then the position will read as follows: Neptunes and Sliema 19 points and Sirens 18. Therefore, everything will hinge on the outcome of next weekend’s clashes where Sirens will have to beat San Giljan while hoping for a draw between the two great rivals Sliema and Neptunes to force deciders between the three teams to determine the issue.

Weekend programme:

Today

Tal-Qroqq: Division II 6pm Marsaxlokk Freeport-Marsascala Breakers; Division I 7.15pm 2X Sirens-Neptunes Vodafone.

Tomorrow:

Division II 4.45pm Ta’ Xbiex Mermaids Paradise-Exiles; Division I 6.30pm San Giljan Zara-Sliema Burger King
