J. Camilleri of San Gwann (TMID, 12 August) insists that Inter were deservingly awarded the league title for 2005-2006 after the scandal in which Juventus and Milan were involved.

But, I ask, what joy is there to wear the scudetto on your shirt if you did not win the league on the field of play?

Inter’s last league victory – real one, that is – was way back in 1989, a few months before the Berlin Wall came down. Now that Juventus have been relegated to the Serie B and Milan will start with minus eight points, Inter have the best chance ever to win the league where it should be won.

If they do not make it this year, I just wonder when they will.
