A Teacher worthy of mention

Malta Independent Sunday, 20 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

From Mr &Mrs M. Debono

Much ink and paper have been wasted to criticise some lone teacher who may have acted irresponsibly and consequently caused harm to children entrusted to his care.

On the other hand, the hundreds of teachers who daily dedicate themselves to the education of their students and prepare them for exams and for life are not deemed worthy of mention.

One such case is surely Mr Cardona, the teacher of class JL2 at Sir Anthony Mamo Primary School, Birkirkara, who had the unenviable task of teaching 17 students who had failed the entrance exam into Form 1 at the Junior Lyceums.

Apart from the academic success of the 15 students who made the grade, one of whom was our daughter, we noted the love, dedication and hard work which characterised this laudable educator. With his personality he not only won the children's admiration and respect during this scholastic year but he also managed to motivate them to be real achievers.

Words cannot express our gratitude and appreciation but certainly an honourable mention is the least we can do while expressing our deepest gratitude and warm praise to whom it is due. I am sure there are countless educators of the same calibre as Mr Cardona.
