The vandal attack on the Zurrieq snail-shell centre-strip (TMID, 18 August) is another example of our lack of civic pride and the need for harsher penalties if such culprits are caught.
Calls have been made in the past for CCTV cameras to be installed but, on the other hand, one cannot expect that cameras should be fixed in each and every corner of each and every street.
There should perhaps be more police patrol during the night. More importantly, if people are caught committing such vandal acts, they should not be treated lightly.
Court sentences should be hard to possibly act as a deterrent. Other people might think it over twice if the punishment meted out to other offenders is harsh.
