I was in the queue to buy food in a take-away outlet in Bugibba.

An English couple was ahead of me in the line. The lady taking the orders could not understand their simple, plain English – and all they were asking her was whether they could have sweet corn added to their salad.

I tried to help, but the problem was that she did not know what sweet corn was.
