Following its first full Annual General Meeting, the new board of the Malta Remote Gaming Council (MRGC) has set a busy schedule for the coming term.
The new board aims to continue tackling challenges being faced by the remote gaming industry as a result of restrictions aimed at blocking the free flow of online gaming services. A pressure group will be set up to hold discussions with all the relevant authorities to try to find ways of moving ahead and ensuring that remote gaming does not continue to be targeted unfairly.
The MRGC represents the remote gaming companies licensed in Malta, as well as entities who provide services directly to the gaming industry, such as internet service providers (ISPs), consultants and banks.
The council’s main objective is to promote remote gaming in a regulated and responsible manner. Currently the MRGC represents approximately 75 per cent of locally-licensed i-gaming companies.
During the past year, the main focus of attention of the MRGC board, led by outgoing chairman George Debrincat, has been the blocking of all online-gaming sites not directly licensed in Italy, as well as action taken by other jurisdictions to hamper the freedom of the online gaming industry.
