Facts remain facts! Franco Farrugia (TMID 25 August) is desperately trying to defend his arguments and showing us that the truth hurts. I really admire the persistency of this person but he is constantly pushing me further to uncover more and more facts!

First of all, I assure Mr Farrugia that in my quest to protect the environment, I did refer to other sources besides school transport. The letter was entitled Fireworks and global warming. In other papers, I also showed my concern about the chopping and over-pruning of trees.

If teachers like Mr Farrugia do not find it pleasing or possible to use school transport, is outside the scope of my letter. However, it remains a fact that, had they made better use of it, children would be safer and our main roads would be much clearer in the mornings and evenings.

My argument that from the beginning of the school holidays until the very last day, our environment is cleaner, still stands, no matter how hard Mr Farrugia tries to convince me that teachers still keep on reporting for work! Also, how does one explain that in the November mid-term holiday, all the streets are again clear.

Don’t tell me that everyone takes two days off simply because it is All Saints and All Souls’ Day! This is not Carnival, when thousands of Maltese are waiting for it to come...
