Eurolinks Foundation Malta has set up a special fund to receive donations for peace. Donors may donate Lm2 by sending an SMS on 5061-8073.

The fund has been set up after the foundation was approached by the Peace One Day Foundation in the UK to take initiatives to commemorate the international Peace One Day established by a UN resolution in 2001.

The resolution was lobbied for by Jeremy Gilley, a UK actor who left his acting career to achieve his mission of peace, and establishes 21 September as the Day of Peace.

Eurolinks Foundation Malta has taken several initiatives and we are pleased that some of our proposals have been accepted.

Local councils in Rabat, Hamrun, Pembroke and Victoria have agreed to name a street as “Peace One Day” as well as plant an olive tree as a symbol of peace in their locality.

Moreover, the Education Department will be commemorating Peace One Day every 24 October, since schools are still closed on 21 September.

The Eurolinks Foundation is in contact with the local television stations to broadcast a documentary produced by the Peace One Day Foundation, and is also expecting a reply from Maltapost Ltd regarding the issue of a stamp on 21 September.
