I am extremely glad that finally, a decision has been taken on low-cost airlines.

Apart from the fact that I am sure that they will enable the Maltese tourism industry to recover, at least in part, from the difficult time it is going through, I also think that low-cost carriers will enable more Maltese people to travel because of the cheaper rates on offer.

I have nothing against Air Malta. The national airline has served us well over the years and the services offered are efficient. But one must admit that it is quite expensive to travel with Air Malta, and with other national airlines for that matter.

I therefore welcome the presence of low-cost carriers in Malta.
