I refer to the article by Marisa Micallef (TMID, 11 September) on the Maltese language.

She may be right on certain points, but it is interesting to know that many foreign well known scholars have studied our mother language in depth.

It is also worth noting that foreign personalities such as Grandmaster Hompesch and a former British High Commissioner spoke perfect Maltese.

On the other hand, certain Maltese citizens (in name only) do not know a word. Any more comment would be superfluous.
